3DFS attended DistribuTECH this year as a part of the delegation representing North Carolina’s Energy Sector. From January 23-25 in San Antonio, Texas, we were delighted to be alongside E4 Carolinas, Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and the Research Triangle Clean Tech Cluster at Booth #627.

We met many people and anticipate many partnerships and clients to be announced in the coming months. This was an incredible opportunity to introduce Software-Defined Electricity to the industry and we are very grateful for everybody’s support and assistance in making this happen.

Thank you to everybody who stopped by our booth and inquired about what we are doing. This was the first of what will be many DistribuTECH events.

Losses on the distribution wires

Some electricity is lost between the power plants and the customers. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates that loss in its State Electricity Profiles. For 2024, it puts the loss at 185.5 TWh, as the About 3DFS page records.

Imbalance adds to these losses. The Electric Power Research Institute reported in 2008 that bringing phase imbalance from 25% to below 10% can cut primary line losses by 1.5% to 2%. It cites research by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance.

The losses inside a facility sit after the meter, in the panels and the machines. That is where our controllers connect. Our software measures the current as it moves, not as an average after the fact.

Where this stands today

The Delivery page describes the distribution feeder as it stands today. Solar, storage and vehicle charging push power forward and backward on feeders built for one direction. Software-Defined Electricity corrects the current at the load panel where the feeder ends, before it reaches the feeder.

The Partners page sets out how we work with others. We work with three kinds of partner: suppliers, technical collaborators and market partners.
